“Not everything that is faced can be changed; but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”

— James Baldwin

Therapy that goes deeper.

Space to speak freely. A place to understand yourself more fully. Therapy that honors your experience and helps you uncover new understanding, direction, and meaning.

THERAPY WITH DR. BATYA WEINSTEIN

In a city that moves quickly, therapy can offer something rare: space to slow down, room to speak freely, and chance to look inward. I help people make sense of their emotional lives so they can live with greater freedom, intention, and self-understanding.

Support tailored for your experience

I work with concerns spanning identity, relationships, trauma, and the complexities of distinct cultural and psychological experiences.

  • For those struggling with intense emotions, identity confusion, and difficult relationship patterns.

  • For individuals carrying the weight of past experiences—ready to feel safer, more connected, and more whole.

  • For those questioning, leaving, or navigating life within a faith tradition—seeking clarity and self-understanding.

  • For creatives exploring how inner conflicts and emotional blocks impact their work and sense of self.

  • For students navigating academic pressure, identity development, and the complex transition into adulthood.

Starting therapy, step by step

Beginning therapy can feel like a big step, and I am here to make the process thoughtful and collaborative. We will use the first couple of sessions as a space for us to get to know each other—you’ll share what’s bringing you in, and I’ll ask questions to better understand your history, patterns, and current concerns. It’s also a chance for you to get a sense of me and how I work. Then, I’ll share my impressions and offer feedback about how therapy could help, including the kind of treatment I recommend. We will also reflect together on whether it feels like a good fit.

In-person and remote options available

My office is conveniently located in NYC. Can’t make it into the office? I also offer teletherapy to residents in both New York and Florida, where I am licensed to practice.

FAQs

  • At this time, I do not accept insurance. However, I am able to submit billing on your behalf for your insurance to reimburse you for out-of-network benefits. Alternatively, I can provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance on your own.

  • Questions to ask your insurance to find out if/what your out-of-network benefits are. Some insurance companies will cover up to 40 to 80% but it depends on your specific provider and plan. The best thing is for you to call your insurance and find out the following information.

    • What is my annual deductible. The amount that you pay out of pocket until your insurance will start to reimburse you

    • What percentage will your insurance cover for out-of-network benefits?

    • Does my policy have an out-of-pocket maximum? If my out-of-pocket expenses reach a certain amount, will the insurance carrier ever reimburse at 100 percent?

  • Appointments must be cancelled or rescheduled at least 48 hours in advance to avoid being charged the full session fee. This policy honors the time set aside for your care and allows me to offer that time to others. Late cancellations and missed appointments cannot be billed to insurance and will be your financial responsibility. However, if we're able to find a mutually available time to reschedule within the same week, the cancellation fee will be waived.

  • I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology from Long Island University, CW Post. I completed my clinical internship at SUNY Upstate Medical University Hospital, and have extensive clinical experience at a range of outpatient and inpatient sites including The New York Psychoanalytic Institute and Mount Sinai Hospital.

I am also a Supervising Clinical Psychologist at Pratt Institute’s Counseling Center, where I provide individual psychotherapy to students and supervise doctoral-level trainees.

  • Understanding how culture and identity (i.e., LGBTQ, BIPOC, class, and disabilities) intersect with personal struggles is central to my approach. I am committed to being sensitive to and acknowledging the socio-political realities that are beyond your control; while also helping you develop a sense of agency.
